#FitnessFriday: Get Sweaty in the Sun this Summer

Courtesy of NYC Parks, New York City’s Department of Parks and Recreation, you can take your workout outside this summer and get your tan and sweat on at the same time! All around the city, NYC Parks has organized free group workout classes to encourage visiting some of the city’s most underrated parks. More importantly, these outdoor classes are a fantastic opportunity to leave lower Manhattan or downtown Brooklyn, and explore other boroughs. Below are some of the most promising classes on offer, but check out the full list here:

If you’re into yoga, the city has heard you! All over the city there are amazing options for group yoga. Beginning today, there is a class in Little Rock Bay in Queens. If that’s too much too soon, there are classes every Tuesday and Thursday at Randall’s Island Park. Looking to dapple into new mindfulness activities? There is Tai Chi on offer in Bryant Park, every Tuesday and Thursday, and meditation classes in Inwood Hill Park every Monday.

High Intensity Training
If you’re looking to really feel the burn, head to Riverside Park any Saturday this summer for the “Summer on the Hudson: Butt & Gut” workout. Amp up your confidence and full-body strength with this core and cardio targeted workout. In a similar fashion, “Summer on the Hudson” also offers High Intensity Interval Training (HIIT) to help shed body fat by targeting problem areas, and improving cardiovascular endurance.

Low Intensity Traning
If high-demand group workouts aren’t really your thing, NYC Parks thankfully also offers some fun, easygoing group classes that’ll just get you outside and enjoying the day. At the West Harlem Piers, come dressed ready to dance in some Zumba classes every Saturday. There’s also an all-levels Tango class at West Harlem Piers, so you can learn a new skill (or perfect one) and workout at the same time.
