2017 is sizing up to be a major year for Joey Bada$$. As the Brooklyn emcee gears up to release his sophomore project ‘AABA’, fans have been gifted with SoundCloud loosies left and right. Fresh off the heels of the politically charged “Land of The Free,” Joey is back again to deliver onslaught bars on the NBA inspired track “Victory.”
The Kirk Knight production finds the rapper unleashing a firestorm of basketball-themed boasts, from laying down “triple-doubles” to calling himself a human “highlight reef” – it’s clear that the 22-year-old has game. The burgeoning Bada$$ recorded the single in part with Mountain Dew’s newest campaign The Courtside Project, which aims to unite figures from basketball, music, style, and art.
“I’m excited to be a part of The Courtside Project,” Joey said in a statement to Billboard. “It’s the fusion of several different worlds that are not all separate streams anymore, they are interconnected.”
“I always want to encourage the youth to be themselves and pursue their dreams, whether those are hoop dreams, Grammy dreams or PhD dreams.”
The Flatbush rapper is set to deliver the debut performance of “Victory” at this year’s NBA All-Star Weekend, which takes place from February 17th-19th in New Orleans. The Courtside Project is part of Mountain Dew’s larger initiative at NBA All-Star Weekend, which will also feature a three-on-three exhibition game with Russell Westbrook and Kyrie Irving serving as honorary general managers.
