Lace Up: The Ultimate Sneaker Challenge is a must watch

If you’re a die hard sneaker-head and watch shows like Complex’s Sneaker Shopping, The Show by Round Two, Nice Kicks, or Kick Genius, life just got better. Recently a new show launched by Complex amongst YouTube Red called the Lace Up Series: The Ultimate Sneaker Challenge that collide the industry worlds of entertainment and sneakers for an even greater cause. The show features mentor-ship from D’Wayne Edwards, the former design director at Air Jordan, hosting by YouTube star and sneaker-head Swoozie, and 12 inspiring footwear designers picked from all over the world to compete.

During the course of two months , twelve contestants who range from fashion designers to creative directors including Michael Roxx are all split into four teams who compete each week to create a sneaker inspired by each celebrity guest that stops through. For each celebrity they create for, they have a total of 5 days to create a pitch, sketch their vision, and bring it to life. Based on the judges perception for each team’s creation will determine who the strongest team and who is the weakest. After the eight weeks, the judges will decide what team demonstrated the illest kick within the competition, and that kick will be given a position at Adidas, and have their sneaker given to James Harden as well as Adidas to sell online.

The competition takes place in Portland at the Pensole Footwear Design Academy and features a list of star-studded visitors including NBA player and rapper Damian Lillard, rapper Fetty Wap, chef , author, and Viceland host Eddie Huang, actor Anthony Anderson, rapper Macklemore, and actress Jamie Chung. Along with the celebrity guest as being the judge of each sneaker, the competition will also be accommodated by the opinions of D’Wayne and Adidas Senior lead of colors and material, Natasha Salter. This show not only opens the eyes to sneaker-heads all around the world but to anyone who has a dream they want to chase.
