Jermaine Dupri Hints At Possible Mariah Carey & Bryson Tiller Collaboration

In a recent sit-down with Rap-Up, Mimi’s long-standing collaborator and friend, Jermaine Dupri revealed what he has in store for the Grammy winning singer’s forthcoming album. From “Always Be My Baby” to “We Belong Together,” Dupri is the mastermind responsible for crafting some of Mariah’s biggest hits.

“We did so many records; it’s just trying to give people something different,” Dupri explained.
“I’m always trying to figure out something that will make the mind spark or say something like, ‘Damn. What made them do that?’”
And the duo’s latest effort, “I Don’t,” is a prime example of J.D.’s methodology. The breakup anthem sample’s Donnell Jones’ love ballad, “Where I Wanna Be,” and features rapper, YG. Rooted in the throws of classic ’90s R&B with a tinge of modern day flair, “I Don’t” is a sound Mariah’s fans may start to hear more often.
“Mariah Carey is basically a rapper in a pop diva’s body,” J.D. admitted.

Despite Mimi’s reign as one of the last divas in the game, she’s not against collaborating on creative pursuits with rising artists, especially Bryson Tiller.
“I did speak to Bryson Tiller about doing a collaboration with her. He wit’ it. I think it’d be dope,” Dupri confirmed during the interview.
Considering Tiller’s history of sampling Mariah’s catalog for his debut single, “Don’t,” this could be a well-blended fusion of trap soul meets R&B. While neither party has yet to confirm or deny, we’ll keep our fingers crossed on this one.
Until then, check out the video for Mimi’s newest single, “I Don’t,” below.
