Pharrell Releases Song “Runnin” for ‘Hidden Figures’ Soundtrack

Hip Hop mogul, Pharrell Williams’ music has become a proven staple and liaison of film. The gap of art genre is bridged with his talents–as we’ve seen with the Despicable Me soundtrack.

Now he’s here to work his magic on the latest film, Hidden Figures, which stars Taraji Henson, Janelle Monae and Octavia Spencer.

Three brilliant African-American women at NASA — Katherine Johnson (Taraji P. Henson), Dorothy Vaughn (Octavia Spencer) and Mary Jackson (Janelle Monáe) — serve as the brains behind one of the greatest operations in history: the launch of astronaut John Glenn into orbit, a stunning achievement that restored the nation’s confidence, turned around the Space Race, and galvanized the world. Based on a true story. -TSG Entertainment

The song shares themes from the movie that are familiar to Pharrell and his creative aesthetic. It touches lightly on the struggle of being a minority as well as having grand ideas to the point of feeling as though you’re ahead on another planet.

Check out the cut below and let us know what you think? Will this song define the film in the same way “Happy” did for Despicable Me 2?
