Reset Your System For Fall With a Nutritional Detox!

We’ve talked about detoxing from the internet, now on to the body. No, this isn’t about teas. Every once in a while it’s good to give your system a reboot, especially if you consume a lot of animal-based proteins. What better time to do a detox than before a new season?  Summer is full of fried,, grilled, and greasy foods, which are known to make you feel sluggish after consumption. That feeling can linger if you frequently eat those foods. Does this sound like you? It may be time to remove those toxins.

I know, detoxing can sound like something scary. It usually involves juice or tea, and feeling like you want to die. Thankfully, nature is full of wonderful foods that make you feel full, are whole, taste good, and detox your system, all at the same time. However, it’s not bad to include juices/smoothies! They’re delicious and healthy, so you can’t really go wrong.

Cayenne pepper has an endless list of benefits. It aids in digestion, boosts metabolism, fights against bacteria,  and improves blood circulation. Not to mention, if you include enough of it in your food it will make you sweat, which is another form of detoxing. Add cayenne pepper to your favorite hummus or spaghetti recipe to diversify your new meal plan. A mixture of lemon, cayenne pepper and water (add honey for a little sweetness!) is a well-known diet drink, but is not to be consumed alone. Lemon water is a great way to do a gentle detox daily. Vashtie starts her days with room temperature water with lemon, which flushes the toxins in the digestive tract and balances the body’s ph.


Turmeric is a powerful spice used heavily throughout India. It has a mild flavor, but very high staining power. Turmeric fights inflammation and is considered an antioxidant. Curry is made with turmeric, so making a curry dish would be the easiest way to incorporate this into your diet. Golden milk is a traditional Indian drink that is used to fight and prevent colds. If you don’t like flavor, it comes in capsules!

Fermented foods are great for gut health. Kimchi, pickles, and yogurt are common ways to consume fermented foods, but don’t be afraid to try new things! Kombucha is a trendy health drink that has tons of probiotics that help to create healthy bacteria in the gut.
