The ever-so talented Flying Lotus, formerly known as Steven Ellison, debuts his film school talent with the release of an excerpt from his first feature film, titled Kuso.

Although most are familiar with his musical skills, Ellison proves himself to be an incredibly gifted director. His cinematic approach is both experimental and ground breaking – although the methodology of his techniques may be familiar to film buffs. As the title reads, this film is NSFW and likely not suitable for children either, but it is definitely worth watching.

The short film will be a part of Lotus’ predominantly-animated feature, The Greasy Strangler which will certainly be just as gory and unsettling as Kuso.

The story line, the characters, and the plot twists are carefully manipulated in a way that is incredibly engaging and equally appalling. Ellison is completely comfortable in expressing aspects of life that are often remain behind closed doors. His careful assessment of sexual deviance and the intricacies of the human condition are highlighted by the comedy of it all. It’s gritty, moving, and hilarious – everything an Indie film should be, all the better because we recognize the face of the director!

Because this film truly is a piece of art, we want you to embark on the cinematic experience with a clear mind and generate your own thoughts on Ellison’s work set to be premiered at the Sundance NEXTFEST this weekend!

If you can’t wait, you can also check out the trailer above and more of his dope work here!
