Spike Lee Announces 30th Anniversary Screening of “School Daze”

Spike Lee’s iconic film, School Daze, will be having a special screening in celebration of its 30th Anniversary of being released.

For those who’ve never experienced a Spike Lee joint, this movie is one of Spike’s many sagas that depict the African-American experience. School Daze is based on Greek life at a historically black college (HBCU) and derived from Spike’s personal experiences as an undergraduate at Morehouse College as well as its sister school Spelman College, Clark Atlanta University, and Morris Brown College. On February 19th, a week from the date of the original release of School Daze, he will be traveling back down to Atlanta to deliver a special screening in the city’s historic Fox Theatre at 7 pm.

Spike took to Instagram to let us know the details about his screening. In a caption under his post of the movie’s original flyer, Spike told all who will be attending to “Come Repping your Frats, Sorors, and HBCU’s. I will join you there in living Black color…” He also made sure to let us know that a collectors edition of the movie will be available for purchase as well as merchandise.

School Daze was a follow-up to Spike Lee’s debut film, She’s Gotta Have It, which was recently revamped into a series on Netflix. The series did so well that it was renewed for a second season, allowing the newer generation experience the unique authenticity of a Spike Lee joint!
